Our Story

How it all started...

Hillcrest Baptist Church was organized August 30, 1947 with 25 charter members as Leavell Woods Baptist Church. In March of 1954, the name Leavell Woods Baptist Church was changed to Hillcrest Baptist Church. In 1969, the church voted to organize a Christian school consisting of grades one through eight. In 1977 the school incorporated and separated from Hillcrest Baptist Church and moved to a new location, but continues to use the name, Hillcrest Christian School.

For more than 55 years, Hillcrest served the people of South Jackson.

Expanding the vision...

In 2001 we heard and obeyed God’s radical command to leave the comfortable surroundings of the familiar and move to the Byram community. We are proud of our heritage, but it’s to the future we look. Hillcrest has nearly 27 acres of land on Terry Road. This large tract of land ensures the church more than enough space for future expansion.

However, Hillcrest is not defined by these walls. It’s the people who are the heart of the church. In a world filled with strife and conflict, you will feel a genuine sense of love and acceptance. This is a church that cares for each other. We are committed to doing what we have to in order to let people know that there is hope in this world, and it can be found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

If you don’t have that relationship, we would appreciate the opportunity to talk to you.

Philippians 1:6 - "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ..." (ESV)
